Idli – Indian dish:

Idli – Indian dish is a main food for Indians which is made using Rice and black gram. Which is very soft and nutritious.  It helps digestion. Especially  idli is a healthy food for sick people and all age groups. In India especially in Tamilnadu the sick people are asked to Idli or Rasam Rice. I’ll attach the link for how to make Rasam.

Ingredients for Idli – Indian dish:

  1. Rice-500 gram
  2. Black dal -150 gram ( Especially for women who needs more protein but less carbohydrates can use 250grams of black dal without removing black skin)
  3. fenugreek seeds -25 grams ( which cools the body and reduces heat)

 

Preparing Idli dough:

Soak rice and Fenugreek seeds separately for 3 hours. Soak black dal 2 hours later. That’s soak black gram dal for 1 hour.

Rinse  each of the ingredients well and grind each ingredient separately as 3/4liquid. Finally mix all the ground ingredients and salt. Mix them well.

Leave it for 10 hours for the fermentation.

This Fermented dough is the raw material for idli.

Preparing Idli:

Put idli vessal in stove  and pour fermented Idli dough. Let it cook for 10 minutes till it cooks well.

How do we know whether it cooked or not?

Take a small thin stick and pierce over the idli. And take it out. If there is dough sticking over the stick then it needs to cook more. Otherwise we can consider the idli is cooked.

After Idli cooked well take it off from Idli vessel. Finally Idli -Indian dish ready to serve. Serve with coconut chutney, tomato chutney and Sambar.
